The Colca Canyon is located in the northeastern end of the Arequipa Region, province of Caylloma, 165 kilometers from Arequipa and 40 km from Chivay main town and capital of the province of Caylloma. The Colca Valley is 100 km long and occupies only one sector of the Colca River, between the districts of Callalli and Huambo. The route to reach the Colca canyon runs through the slopes of the Chachani and crosses plains full of ichu, yareta, you can also see the immense flora and fauna that this part of Peru offers, samples of the typical vegetation of the Andes. In these places also live alpacas and vizcachas that are in the vicinity on the road that will take us to our destination.

ITINERARY:

At 3:00 - 3:30 a.m. approximately, we will pick you up from your hostel and set off on our transport to the Colca Canyon. After a 4 hour bus ride, we will go directly to the Cruz del Cóndor, which will only make a stop in Chivay to have a delicious breakfast to continue our route.

At approximately 8:30 am we will arrive at the Cruz del Cóndor, where we will be able to appreciate the impressive views of one of the deepest canyons in the world and we will see the majestic bird of the Andean Condor that can be seen flying over its head. Here we can get closer to take the best photos and take home this memory definitely this was a unique experience.

After our adventure in the Colca canyon we will take the road back to Chivay, here we will make a stop in the villages of Pinchollo, Maca and Yanque, all the small local villages that have colonial churches, tombs and terraces that belong to the pre -inca, and we can really see the impact of living in the second part of the deepest canyon in the world.

Approximately at 12:00 p.m. We will arrive in Chivay to visit the hot springs, this place is very visited because it is a point to relax and here we will also finish the details for lunch at a local restaurant. After our delicious lunch we return to the city of Arequipa, but we will stop at Patapampa, an incredible viewpoint where you will see the Ampato, Sabancaya and Hualca Hualca volcanoes side by side. Approximately we will arrive to Arequipa at 17:30 pm.

NOTES:

  • Tour starts at 3am from Arequipa and finishes at 5pm approximately back in Arequipa.
  • Full Day Tour is EASY – no trekking involved, just some walking.
  • It is the ONLY way to see the Colca Canyon in 1 day.
  • Colca Canyon is about 3.5 hours from Arequipa so plenty of bus travel in 1 day.
  • Tours start so early so you can catch the Condor Flights.
